Wetlands

West Wimmera Shire accounts for an incredible 25% of Victoria’s individual wetlands.

You may catch a glimpse of endangered birds such as the Brolga or Freckled Ducks, or migratory birds during their travels from far flung parts of the World. The rare and endangered Red-tailed Black Cockatoo relies on the remnant hollow Red Gums, often found around wetlands for breeding.

Lakes Charlegrark, Bringalbert and Wallace generally contain permanent water, while others contain water for only short periods. Wetlands are important recreational facilities, offering activities such as camping, waterskiing, bird watching, fishing and yabbying.

Try your luck fishing for Murray Cod,Yellow Belly, Redfin or yabbies. Remember that many of the wetlands are on private property. You must seek permission of the land owner for access.

PLEASE NOTE: FISHING PERMITS MUST BE OBTAINED PRIOR TO FISHING IN VICTORIA, SENIORS EXEMPT.
